<image:title>MULTIMEDIA - Alec created the infographic pictured here for his Introduction to Web Production class. The infographic, which was created using Adobe Illustrator, displays some of the major statistics surrounding public pre-k in the United States. As the infographic displays, despite large quantities of government funding each year, demographics and wealth can play a major role in who ends up receiving a quality early childhood education experience.</image:title>

<image:caption>From June-December 2021, Alec worked with the political unit of NBC News, based out of the Washington D.C. bureau. While there, he pitched and reported on national political stories for the “Meet the Press Blog” and contributed research to the political unit’s daily morning newsletter, “First Read.” Some of the topics he covered included the January 6 insurrection, 2022 campaign fundraising, the 2022 North Carolina Democratic Senate primary, the 2021 New Jersey gubernatorial race and Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s resignation. He also collaborated directly with political unit reporters to cover developing stories and trends including voter registration totals, 2022 race updates and polling results. More details on some of the stories he’s covered are below: A rundown of the North Carolina Democratic Senate primary, featuring exclusive interviews with State Senator Jeff Jackson and the campaigns of Cheri Beasley and Erica Smith A deep dive into the fundraising numbers of GOP election certification objectors since Jan. 6, which compared their 2021 totals through June 30 to their 2019 numbers by that same point Chronicling the history of NY politicians who have had to resign due to scandal since 2008 in the wake of Andrew Cuomo’s resignation Pew data pointing to continued polarization in America</image:caption>

<image:title>WRITING - From July-August 2020, Alec worked as an editorial intern with the Long Island Press, where he primarily carried out the responsibilities of a beat reporter in his coverage of the Nassau County Legislature and Long Island politics as a whole. Along with covering breaking news and press conferences, Alec also worked to develop sources, which led to further enterprise stories. Some topics Alec covered during his internship included: -A rundown of the competitive NY-2 Congressional race, featuring exclusive interviews Alec conducted with both major candidates (Jackie Gordon and Andrew Garbarino) -The Nassau County Legislature convening a special committee to question power company officials following their response to Tropical Storm Isaias, which left hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders without power, and the eventual hearing itself -Bills to rename county buildings after notable Black figures with a connection to NY and Long Island, including the response by community activists seeking change beyond renaming -A pro-police rally that drew a counter-protest and the controversy leading up to that day involving the planned participation of Ted Nugent</image:title>
